Sonja Bezuidenhout has had a passion for sewing from a very young age and her
first sewing machine was a prize won in a local competition. Born in South
Africa, she first pursued a Nursing career, but then sought a change in
direction and qualified as a Computer Programmer.
With the arrival of her
first of three girls, she decided to follow her passion and became a Dressmaker
and later established a Sewing School in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
She was introduced to the Lutterloh Pattern Making System in 1993 and was so
impressed with the beautiful fit, cut and style of the outfits created using the
system; she began teaching her students using Lutterloh patterns.

Locker Hooking -Tablet Cover/Journal
This
project is an original, never been published pattern for a tablet cover or a
notebook, designed by Gail. The morning portion of the class includes learning
how to make a continual bias binding to seal the edges of the canvas. We will
add a fabric panel which can be quilted or embroidered by machine and prep the
fibers for hooking.
After lunch, we will locker hook with some unusual
fibers for various levels of texture. The creative closure uses materials that
are made for other purposes. Kits are filled with all different materials, so
every cover is unique. One of Gail’s samples uses colorful plastic bag strips.
Kit
cost: $50 paid to the teacher in the classroom. Kit includes,
instructions, colored canvas, tool, skein of silk selvages, mixed fabrics,
string, closure and a notebook. NOTE: All kits will be
different due to the silk!
Bring to class:
sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, fabric scissors, own bobbins, light and
dark thread, rotary cutter and mat and a sharp hand sewing needle.
NOTE: bias ruler, marking pen and 1/2" clips will be on loan in
class.
